    Evade Strength & Fitness Programme

    Perfect for those who want train a little a little different from conventional means

    The Project Active Evade Strength & Fitness programme is designed to target those who want to learn enough in a self defence situation and those who want to progress to the next steps of combat and fitness.

    Depending on what you want, need and require a range of disciplines from martial arts, boxing, self defence, tactics and evasion techniques will be applied to your programme.

    The purpose of this programme unlike most fitness programmes is to engage with your coach or the others participants of your class where you will stand with and against your coach so your learning becomes engrained on every level. Through reinforced learning, application, discussion and self reflection – the cycle is a continuum.

    If the gym or traditional fitness is not your thing and you want to learn new skills, then this is the programme for you.

    We would all like to feel safer on the streets – particularly at night – and an increasing number of people are taking steps to feel more secure by learning some basic self defence moves. Self defence lessons have now sprung up all over the country but if you are considering taking up a class it can be difficult to decide which one is right for you.


    Most of us imagine self-defence lessons to be like a scene from a Bruce Lee film. In fact most classes are not pure martial arts at all. ‘In Martial Arts you are working with set patterns, but it doesn’t work like that in real life,’ says Jim Brown, a fully qualified Martial Arts instructor, an expert in self defence and Project Active coach.  ‘With self defence you are working against a ‘live’ opponent, someone who does not move through rigid forms. You are working under real pressure and with resistance, not pretend moves.’

    Like many experts he believes there is a need for specific self defence training to cover the gaps left by some traditional martial arts.


    There are many self defence classes all over the country and the techniques you learn will vary slightly. As a rule, however, you do not have to be super fit to take part – just keen to learn how to feel more confident, safe and secure on the streets.  Within our training programme we look at the key concept of all self-defence lessons –IMG_4696

    With  the structure of the sessions, we aim to improve and apply confidence  through the use of our bodies and minds.

    Awareness Training

    All self defence techniques will dedicate a large amount of the lesson to making you aware of your surroundings.

    “Being conscious of our surroundings is your first line of defence” says Jim “a good awareness is key to preventing and avoiding potentially dangerous situations.” With his substantial background in security, he delivers his knowledge in a practical and relaxed manner. “A lot of this is common-sense but our day-to -day complacency can leave us susceptible to those wishing us harm”.

    Defence Tactics

    You will acquire a number of techniques for deterring an attacker with varying levels of resistance.  Beginning with basic yet effective evasive IMG_4705maneuvers our programme then goes on through the progressive phases to enable the student to perform take-down techniques.

    All work is carried out with a training partner or with the the coach,  so you become more aware of your own strength and that of a potential opponent. Throughout the course of the programme and beyond, students are encouraged to practice their new skills.

    “Engagement is key, techniques should be performed on instinct learnt largly through repepetition”, as a keen and successful practitioner of Martial Arts,  Jim insists that the techniques he uses should require minimum force whilst delivering maximum effect.

    Self defence when instilled correctly is the one thing we have to defend us from danger and the threat of harm from others.
